It is an evergreen shrub which can erect to 45 cm. Leaves are ovate to linear lanceolate, round or sharply cuneate at base. The colour of the leaves is red to purple, and the size is about 10 x 5 cm. The length of the petiole can be as high as 1cm.
The flowers are in white, solitary spikes. The bracts are ovate acuminate with sessile bracteoles.
As the brilliantly coloured leaves are so attractive, it is
used in garden planting.
