It is a large glabrous cultivated shrub with grayish branches that can grow to about 2.4 m in height.
The leaves are leathery, narrow-elliptic in outline with 5 - 12 cm long. They are tapered at both ends, shortly stalked with entire, or finely and sharply toothed margin.
The flowers are small, fragrant, clustered at the leaf-axils. Each flower consists of a 4-toothed calyx, a 4-lobed tubular corolla which is yellowish white in colour. The stamens attached to the tube inside.
Frutis are in black or bluish white powdery drupe which are
measured about 1.3 cm long.
