It is a dicotyledonous, evergreen angiosperm tree that can grow up to 5 m tall. It is smooth and hairless in all parts.
The leaves are compound leaves that grow in alternate pattern. The leaflets are oval in shape, entire margin with blunt apex. The leaflets are stiff and dark green in colour. The upper surface of the leaflets are shiny.
The flowers bloom in summer. They are white, fragrant and bisexual.
Each flower has five petals, each about 1 cm long.
The fruits are round, red in colour. Each fruit contains one or two seeds.
