It is a bushy dicotyledonous, angiosperm flowering plant with fleshy stems. These plants are growing fast; up to 35cm in height. It is a very popular house plant and also the parent of many varieties.
The leaves are about 3cm long. The heart-shaped soft leaves have toothed margins.
It blooms all the year around. There are five petals that can be white, orange, pink or red in color. There is a small tube under each flower, which is a special feature of this family.
The fruits are seldom seen.
