It is a dicotyledonous, angiosperm shrub. It can grow up to 1m tall, but is often shorter. Although it comes from Africa, it is very common in gardens all over the world.
Because of its family, its leaves have a little bad smell after grind. The leaves are ovate or cordate in shape, and grow in opposite. They are about 10x4cm in size, have entire, smooth margin. The veins are quite conspicuous and the leaves are dark green in colour.
It blooms from March to September. It can also bloom all over
the year if the environment is favourable. The sepals are white while petals
are red. Flowers have a little fragrance, and their stamen extend beyond the
corolla. There is no record of its fruit.
