It is a dicotyledonous, angiosperm shrub, which can grow up to 1.5m tall. It is commonly planted in Hong Kong.
It has glossy dark green pinnate leaves. Young leaves are reddish green in colour. The leaflets are about 1.9-3.8cm.
It blooms in winter. The flowers are large, red and pompon-liked that are about 5cm in diameter. Long, silky stamens are being the conspicuous part of the flower when petals are hidden under the stamens.
Its fruits are pods, which are about 7.6cm long and 1.3cm broad.
They are shiny and dark brown in color. Fruits are not very common to find,
so human help is needed for reproduction.
