Junior Geography curriculum

Course Objective

Key Knowledge and Skills:

Students are expected to develop knowledge and understanding of

  • key geographical concepts, including space, place, region, human-environment interaction, global interdependence and sustainable development, and apply them in new situations and contexts;
  • the interactions between human and the natural environment over space and time, including the physical and human processes that involved in such interactions, and the patterns and impacts created by such interactions;
  • the major issues of global concern, and how these issues can be managed and/or resolved in a sustainable way.

Students are expected to develop geographical enquiry skills, including the ability to

  • think geographically
  • master basic geographical enquiry skills
  • master basic geographical skills
  • master basic competencies e.g. communication skills, critical thinking skills and creativity, through the enquiry of geographical issues

Senior Geography curriculum

Course Objective

Key Knowledge and Skills:

Students are expected to develop knowledge and understanding of

  • how natural environments influence human activities and how human activities alter natural environments;
  • the changing development of geographical phenomena and issues in terms of space and time;
  • the characteristics and functioning of a major natural environments, through analyzing the processes and interactions within and between them;
  • the characteristics and development of major human activities, in order to achieve a sense of ‘region’; and
  • the issues arising from people-environment interactions and the human responses to such issues, as well as the implications of these human responses for resource management.

Students are expected to develop geographical enquiry skills, including the ability to

  • identify and ask questions from a geographical perspective; locate, select and extract appropriate information and data from primary and secondary sources, which require the ability to observe and record data systematically and accurately.
  • present and organize information and data, which involves the ability to use appropriate techniques
  • compare, analyse, synthesise and evaluate, in order to interpret information and data for making inferences and drawing conclusions.
  • evaluate the findings, solutions or conclusions drawn from enquiry.

Students are expected to develop generic skills of communication, critical thinking, problem-solving and creativity through geographical enquiry.
